1) Put your main keyword first in the title of your content. For example, “How to Choose a Web Hosting Provider” should become “Web Hosting Provider – How to Choose a Web Hosting Provider.”
2) Put your focus keyword (usually another variation of your primary keyword) at the beginning of your content. For example, “Choosing a web hosting provider means different things to different people” should become
“To Different People, Choosing a Web Hosting Provider Means Different Things.”
3) Place your keyword naturally within the content. For example,
“A web hosting provider is an online service that provides space on a server it owns or rents from another company to store all of the files and content for your website. This includes images, text, and multimedia files.”
4) Use your keyword in the last sentence or paragraph of your content. For example, “To learn more about web hosting providers or to research our top recommendations for companies offering this service, visit our website today.”
5) Don’t stuff your keywords. This includes repeating a keyword or phrase several times in your content without it having a natural flow.
Remember to use your keyword variations when appropriate. For example, suppose I were writing an article about how to choose a web hosting provider. In that case, I might start with: “First things first: in order to choose the right web hosting provider for you and your company, you need to understand what exactly a web hosting provider is.”
I might use a variation of the primary keyword “web hosting providers” at the beginning and end of my content but probably wouldn’t use “choosing a web hosting provider” more than once.
The most important part of search engine optimization is keeping track of your results. Whether you use Google Analytics, Webmaster Tools, or require a professional third-party company to track your SEO efforts, you must measure the number of “hits” or visitors your website receives.
When looking at this data, remember to consider how often your company’s website was cited as the source of the traffic.
